This press release could not be farther from the truth. In reality, more than two-thirds of this beautiful learning space will be demolished for parking spaces, which encourage automobile use and further pollute the environment, all trees will be uprooted, trees that absorb runoff and shade gardeners, the ground will be leveled, community members will effectively be expelled, and the social, environmental, and literal fruits of 13 years of work will instantly be undone. These plans are being driven by President Gould.
The Campus Road Community Garden already serves as a learning center, serves the sustainability mission of CUNY, andserves as a community bridge. The college just doesn’t want contested space, wants to turn the entire campus into a parking lot, and HATES the surrounding community.
